August's Newsletter
Confidence, nerves & what’s new
Hi there,
Welcome to the first M Coaching monthly newsletter! ๐
I wanted to create a space where, once a month, I can share a little more than I can squeeze into a social media post; useful ideas around speaking and presenting, things I’m working on at M Coaching, and hopefully a few things you can put into practice yourself.
๐ค This month: Confident speakers get nervous too
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that good presenters simply don’t get nervous.
They absolutely do.
The difference is that, over time, they learn to recognise what happens to them under pressure and how to work with it rather than fight against it.
For one person, nerves might mean speaking far too quickly. Someone else might suddenly forget everything they wanted to say. Another person might become incredibly formal and stop sounding like themselves altogether.
That’s one of the reasons I use MBTI® in my work with speakers. Understanding how you naturally communicate, and what can happen to those preferences when you’re under pressure, can be incredibly powerful.
The goal isn’t to become someone who never feels nervous.
It’s to become someone who knows they can still speak well when they do.
๐ก Something to try this month
Before your next presentation, meeting or important conversation, don’t just rehearse what you’re going to say.
Ask yourself:
“What normally happens to me when I feel under pressure?”
Do you rush? Over-explain? Go blank? Stop making eye contact? Become very serious?
Simply noticing your own pattern gives you something specific to work with.
๐ Behind the scenes at M Coaching
This month I’ve launched some new research into what really makes a great presenter.
I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who present as part of their working lives — whether that's in meetings, training sessions, client pitches, webinars or on a stage.
The findings will contribute to the 2026 M Coaching Presenter Report, and the survey takes less than three minutes to complete.
Head over the SURVEYS to take part, I'd love to hear about your experience.
๐ And for anyone with a wedding coming up...
Wedding speeches are a very different kind of public speaking.
You’re not presenting quarterly results or pitching an idea, you’re standing in front of people you care about, trying to say something that genuinely matters.
And that can make the nerves feel even bigger.
M Coaching offers one-to-one wedding speech support, from helping you work out what you actually want to say to practising the delivery so that, when the moment comes, you can enjoy it rather than simply survive it.
โจ One thought to take away
You don't have to feel confident before you speak confidently.
Sometimes confidence comes afterwards when you realise:
“I was nervous… and I did it anyway.”
Have a fabulous August,
